Giving to the Community / Charities

As a good corporate citizen, the Group consistently upholds the values of its founder Mr. Cheung Chi Shing (“Mr. Cheung”), to care for the community and support our chosen charities. We strongly believe in giving to the community and will continue our charitable initiatives in this area.

2015/16

  • Donations to Earthquake Victims

    Early 2015, a massive earthquake struck Nepal, causing widespread destruction. In response to the relief campaign carried out by a local charitable organization, the Group mad donations to support the rescue and relief work in Nepal.

  • Orbis Worldwide Sight-Saving Mission 2015

    In 2015, the Group donated funds to ORBIS WORLDWIDE SIGHT-SAVING MISSION 2015 in support of ORBIS's effort to help blind people.

  • Love Teeth Day 2015/16

    In 2015, to show our care to those in need, the Group donated funds to LOVE TEETH DAY 2015/16, an event jointly organized by the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Dental Association and the Department of Health.

  • Community Chest Skip Lunch Day 2016

    The Group took part in The Community Chest Skip Lunch Day 2016 for the benefit of street sleepers, residents in cage homes and cubicles.

2014/15

  • ORBIS World Sight Day 2014

    In 2014, the Group donated funds to the ORBIS World Sight Day 2014 to help subsidize surgeries for those who are visually impaired, have untreated eye conditions, and live in a country with very poor medical resources.

  • Community Chest Green Day 2015

    For the first time, the Group supported the Community Chest Green Day event in 2015. The event encourages the public to act and think green.

  • Skip Lunch Day 2015

    The Group took part in The Community Chest’s Skip Lunch Day 2015. The donations raised through this activity went towards the benefit of the “Services for Street Sleepers and Cage Residents”.

2013/14

  • UBCAA Ocean Park Field Trip 2013

    In March 2013, the Group sponsored, for the first time, the Ocean Park Field Trip organized by The University of British Columbia Alumni Association for the children of Shamshuipo Kaifong Welfare Association Primary School. This fun-filled event for the children to visit Ocean Park took place in May 2013. The Group believes in taking good care of underprivileged children and sponsoring educational events such as this one.

  • Medecins Sans Frontieres Day 2013

    In 2013, the Group donated funds to Medecins San Frontieres Day 2013 to support the frontline doctors’ efforts in helping reduce human suffering and help people survive in a crisis.

  • ORBIS World Sight Day 2013

    In 2013, the Group donated funds to the ORBIS World Sight Day 2013 to help subsidize surgeries for those who are visually impaired, have untreated eye conditions, and live in a country with very poor medical resources.

  • Dress Casual Day 2013

    In 2013, The Group participated in the Dress Casual Day 2013 organized by The Community Chest. The Group’s employees had participated in this activity.

2012/13

2011/12

  • Donations to Sin Kai Funds Limited

    During Mid-Autumn Festival, the Group made donations to Sin Kai Funds Limited and encouraged each of its employees to buy a box of mooncakes, the proceeds of which were allocated to the building of educational institutions in Guizhou Province, China.

  • Dress Casual Day 2011

    In September 2011, the Group participated in the Dress Casual Day 2011 organized by The Community Chest. More than 60% of the Group’s employees had participated in this activity.

  • Skip Lunch Day 2012

    The Group took part in The Community Chest’s Skip Lunch Day 2012. The donations raised through this activity went towards the benefit of the “Services for Street Sleepers and Cage Residents”.

2010/11

  • Donations to Earthquake Victims

    In 2011, the Group made donations to support the rescue and relief work in Qinghai, PRC.

  • Donations to Japan Earthquake Victims
    1. In the wake of the largest 9-magnitude earthquake in Japan, the Group encouraged its employees to give donations to help victims rebuild their homes. The donations received from employees and business partners were paid to “Hong Kong Red Cross” on 25 March 2011.

    2. The Group bought its employees beverages at Starbucks to support Starbucks Hong Kong’s campaign to help Japan in earthquake relief work, pursuant to which all beverage sales proceeds in Hong Kong by Starbucks within a certain period of time were donated to the ‘Japan Earthquake Relief” of World Vision Hong Kong towards Japan rehabilitation.

  • ORBIS Pin Campaign

    In 2010, the Group continued its support to ORBIS by participating in the Orbis Pin Campaign to provide hope for millions of blind people around the world. The Group also encouraged its staff to make donations and to recruit sponsors for this cause. The total amount of funds raised increased by 40% in 2010 compared to the previous year. The funds raised were sent to ORBIS in September 2010.

2009/10

  • ORBIS Pin Campaign

    Due to the success of the Group’s participation in the ORBIS Pin Campaign in 2009, in 2010 the Group continued to support the ORBIS Pin Campaign to provide hope for millions of blind people around the world. The Group has also encouraged its employees to make donations and recruit sponsors for this campaign. The donation figure has increased since the launch of the campaign.

2008/09

  • Donations to Natural Disasters

    The Sichuan earthquake that took place in May 2008 is the most destructive earthquake in the history of the People’s Republic of China. A death toll of over 69,000 and an economic loss of RMB800 billion were recorded. In response to the relief campaign carried out at home and abroad, Ever-Long Securities Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Group, donated its net commission income generated in certain trading days in full to the HSBC China Earthquake Relief. Through Hong Kong Red Cross, the victims of the earthquake received our direct assistance for overcoming the adversity and for rebuilding their homes.

2007/08

  • Helping the Younger Generation

    In October 2007, Mr. Cheung Chi Shing donated HK$1 million to help the affected students of the closed English Language College to continue their education and complete the courses they enrolled in.

  • In January 2008, in view of the devastating impact of the snow storm in Mainland China, Mr. Cheung Hoo Win, our Executive Director, joined hands with Mr. Cheung Chi Shing, Founder of our Group, in making a donation of HK$1.2 million to help the victims of the snow storm across China and provide aid to the Sichuan earthquake.

    In February 2008, Styland and the founder’s family co-sponsored China Travel Service and other parties from the business sector to 100,000 migrant workers who were held up in Guangdong and unable to spend their lunar new year in their home towns.

  • Donation to Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province, China

    In March 2008, Mr. Cheung Chi Shing supported the establishment of a village bank in Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province as an effort to ease the financial burden of the farmers.

2006 and Earlier

  • Charitable initiatives include: Mineral water and clothing sponsorship in the charitable event of 30-Hour Famine in Hong Kong, other various donations to Art and Craft Factory for Physically Impaired (殘疾人民工藝品廠), Mother’s Love Orphanage(母親之愛孤兒院), and the Foundation for Safeguarding Security in Guangdong Province (廣東省維護治安基金會).

  • Old clothing and daily supplied donations to Inner Mongolia.

  • Made a contribution of HK$3 Million to a nursery school in Zhongshan.

  • HK$100,000 donations to help developing the elderly caring services in Guangzhou.
